Anyone that owns a van that is over nine years old could soon be given a £1K grant by the UK government to scrap it. This idea behind this is to replicate the success of their previous car-scrapping initiative that was also recently launched. The idea was to both the remove unsafe and old cars from the UK’s roads and also kick the new car markets into action at the same time. Due the fact there are more than 5.4 million vans in Britain that are more than 9 years old, there is clear reasoning for adopting the same approach for vans. Also new vans filter into the van lease market over time so there are knock on positive effects. So which new features should people be looking out for?
Stronger chassis. One of the biggest changes is the tension capacities of the van chassis. Vans have traditionally be used to carry large heavy loads and their chassis have always been strong. Older vans were subject to handbrake failure quite frequently as they could not handle the strains they were subject to, leading to all sorts of accidents taking place. Electric handbrakes are found in large amount of the newer vans on the market and these work more efficiently and engage automatically, thus reducing the cases of accidents happening.
